James Smith is the original partner at BlackPoint Distribution and BlackPoint Enterprise he is responsible for strategic analytics, branding, ad retargeting, implementation of new technology, customer service, team support and business development.
James is a passionate leader with substantial experience leveraging people and technology for competitive advantage. He couples strategic vision with the discipline needed to deliver complex programs and projects.
James is an expert in project management, change management, financial services, and communications. He loves developing and delivering new products and services for the online and mobile channels, and any strategic initiative that requires a combination of business intelligence, technology, marketing, and people development.
James was born in England, grew up in Tulsa, and graduated from Northeastern State University with a marketing degree. He has worked in fields such as Healthcare, Wellness, Hospitality, Event planning, and Higher Education, all of which are marked by 35 years of his success, innovation, and passion.
In 2009 James was hired on as the Director of CES Marketing and Business Development for the ORU Mabee Center and was later promoted to the Director of University Marketing position over all of Oral Roberts University. He oversaw the induction of the Mabee Center into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, created an eMuseum to celebrate the Mabee Center’s rich history, orchestrated over 3,000 concerts the likes of Justin Bieber, BB King, Kris Kristofferson, Amy Grant, Third Day to name a few, and saw growth in both global reach and enrollment of students to the university year after year.
Before signing on with ORU, James worked with Saint Francis Health System as the executive director gaining national recognition for running the largest wellness event in the world, Corporate Challenge, an event designed to inspire healthy lifestyles within communities throughout Tulsa. During James’ tenure as Executive Director for the Corporate Challenge the event grew in popularity every single year. In 2002, his final year as Director, the event held close to 32,000 participants, 1500 volunteers, over 225 teams, and over 30 sponsors, all of which were under James’ coordination and direction.
Other notable accomplishments of James’ include winning numerous state-wide advertising awards, managing multiple restaurants, Governors award, Culinary Instructor and opening his own gym franchise which featured an innovative award winning fitness program.
James’ background is diverse, and as a result, he’s developed the ability to quickly grow and prosper in a lot of different environments. He feels that “life is about giving yourself away, to other people and causes greater than yourself. He is a strong believer in faith and family over everything”.
